The Story of CEO
Renganathan Jeyaprakash the CEO of Tea Plus Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd was born in Central of Sri Lanka, where the most delicious teas of the country are growing.
Tea export is his family business, started by his uncles and his grandfather in 1970’s, before he was born. Sooriya Enterprises (INT) Ltd was the first company was started by his Uncles & Grandfather in the Capital of Colombo when there were less exporters in the country. The name Sooriya Enterprises taken from the name of Mr. Sooriyakumar son of Mr.Jeyaprakash’s uncle. Later Mr. Sooriyakumar migrated to United States and settled in Washington DC.
By the hard works of the family members and their friends the company become leading exporter of tea for many years.
Tea was initially exported to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and other countries in the Middle East. Later it was extended to countries like Europe and the United States. ABU90 was the famous brand which Sooriya Enterprises exports in early days.
On the night of 24 July 1983, there was a rioting started in the capital city of Colombo and then spread to other parts of the country. Over seven days, Estimates of the death toll range between 400 and 3,000, and 150,000 people became homeless. Around 8,000 homes and 5,000 shops were destroyed. Black July is the common name used to refer to the riot that occurred in Sri Lanka during July 1983.
In the riots Mr.Jeyaprakash's relatives were attacked and their properties were burned by the rebels other assets confiscated so they had to face a very difficult situation.
Sooriya Enterprise rebuilt in 1985 as a limited liability company after the riots by the Grace of God and the hard work of the family and the company establish its business and its capacity.
In 1991 owners of Sooriya Enterprises who are the uncles of Mr.Jeyaprakash decided to start their own business individually by splitting up the existing company. As a result of their decision Tas International (Pvt) Ltd, Global Tea Bags (Pvt) Ltd and Gee Tee International (Pvt) Ltd formed to do business individually. But Mr. Jeyaprakash's uncles were called sooriya brothers by many known in the tea industry.
They were among the very few producers making fruit tea blends and herbal tea blends in Sri Lanka. They made natural blends using dehydrated fruits and herbs.
After graduating from school Mr. Jeyaprakash joined with his uncle Mr. Ashok Srinivasagam the owner of Tas International (Pvt) Ltd in 1998. Working with his uncle he learned about the tea industry and the export business.
Mr. Jeyaprakash got his first Tea Auction Pass in the year 1999 to buy Tea at the Colombo Tea Auction after his uncle Mr. Ashok Srinivasagam.
They were export Tea to Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Germany & United States. "Al Batha" was the famous brand which was sold in the middle east countries.
While working at Tas International Mr. Jeyaprakash begin to grow in the Tea Industry he gain all basic knowledge from his uncle Mr. Ashok Srinivasagam.
After Mr. Ashok Sinivasagam migrated to the United States, Mr. Jeyaprakash continued his career by exporting Ceylon Tea joining with some other exporters in the country. He build a very good business elationship with China and had many business with Hunan Tea Company, Hunan Tea Company's Representatives frequently visited to Mr. Jeyaprakash for business dealings.
Mr.Jeyaprakash participated in the Malaysia International Tea & Coffee Expo in 2014 which was held in Kuala Lumpur. The faire was unique Tea & Coffee promotional event in Malaysia and this news was published in the Newspapers in Sri Lanka.
The fair was inaugurated by the Malaysian Minister of Tourism and Culture, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Abdul Aziz. He visited Sri Lanka Stall and tasted a cup of Pure Ceylon Tea also happily accepted a gift from Mr. Jeyaprakash. High Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Ibrahim Ansar and the President of the Malaysia Restaurant also visited the booth and share their knowledge for how to expand business in Malaysia.
Mr.Jeyaprakash made a presentation on Pure Ceylon Tea during the event he explained about: How bCeylon Tea became a commercial crop of Sri Lanka, Tea Growing Areas, Specialties of Ceylon Tea, Manufacturing methods, Exports of Ceylon Tea, Benefits of Ceylon Tea and more. He also participated in the Teh Tarik competition organized by the Malaysia Restaurant Owners Association.

Finally Mr.Jeyaprakash joined with Mr.Witold, an American businessman and created two companies – one in Sri Lanka [Tea Plus Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd], to be an export company, and one in the US [Tea Plus US LLC], to be an import and distributor company.
Tea Plus US LLC Participated in the World Tea Exhibition to promote Ceylon Tea.
